A new type of transit station is coming to south Minneapolis
A new transit station on I-35W at 46th Street in Minneapolis is the first of its kind for the Twin Cities region.
The new station – under construction now – will allow buses to pick up and drop off customers without leaving the freeway. The station is in between the northbound and southbound lanes. Customers can board express buses on the freeway level or transfer to local buses on the 46th Street bridge.
The station features an elevator to each side of the freeway. It will use geothermal heating and cooling and will have NexTrip real-time displays so you know when to expect your bus.
Representatives from Metro Transit and MnDOT have been meeting with community members about the station. Use the link below to view a presentation from the June 1, 2009, meeting at Martin Luther King Recreation Center in the Kingfield neighborhood of Minneapolis.
The station is scheduled to open in late 2010. Check back for construction updates.
Attend an open house on the status of Crosstown Commons reconstruction. At the open house, see an overview of Metro Transit's service plan for I-35W and see an update on I-35W & 46th Street Station development.
